PotC:
Two (short) related gen pieces fromgeekmama, set the night before Jack's hanging, and focusing on James and Elizabeth: "Sunday Dinner" and "For Luck". Both of these are insightful and compelling portraits of the characters.
In a similar vein, "Safe Harbour" fromshyaway is another "deleted scene," this one set on the Dauntless, on the way back to Port Royal. Swann is sometimes depicted as a bumbling idiot, but this portrayal of him as the overly-fond, worrying father seems exactly right to me. (gen, PG, short)
Firefly:
"Beautiful Solutions" bymusesfool (River/Mal, Adult, short) - A fascinating examination of Mal's sense of responsibility and the guilt he might feel if he and River fell into some kind of relationship, as well as how River might respond to that guilt.
Harry Potter:
"The Odds of Faith in the Face of Doubt" bymusesfool: The Tamlane (or Tam Lin) fairy tale, retold with Remus and Sirius - beautifully done. (Remus/Sirius, PG, short)

In addition, I want to pimp the very useful new communitypirate_hunters - If you're looking for a specific sort of PotC story and having a hard time finding what you want, make a post here asking for recs - anything from a specific pairing, a certain sort of plot or kink, or stories written in a particular style.
If you're looking for a story you've already read, make a post describing as much of the story as you can remember. Provide any sorts of details that might help folks identify it, including when and where you think you read it.
