Fic
PotC:
Two (short) related gen pieces from
geekmama, set the night before Jack's hanging, and focusing on James and Elizabeth: "Sunday Dinner" and "For Luck". Both of these are insightful and compelling portraits of the characters.
In a similar vein, "Safe Harbour" from
shyaway is another "deleted scene," this one set on the Dauntless, on the way back to Port Royal. Swann is sometimes depicted as a bumbling idiot, but this portrayal of him as the overly-fond, worrying father seems exactly right to me. (gen, PG, short)
Firefly:
"Beautiful Solutions" by
musesfool (River/Mal, Adult, short) - A fascinating examination of Mal's sense of responsibility and the guilt he might feel if he and River fell into some kind of relationship, as well as how River might respond to that guilt.
Harry Potter:
"The Odds of Faith in the Face of Doubt" by
musesfool: The Tamlane (or Tam Lin) fairy tale, retold with Remus and Sirius - beautifully done. (Remus/Sirius, PG, short)
Fannish Meta
prillalar talked about user names
hesychasm posted about fannish memory
An excellent rant from
musesfool about ficathon etiquette
elynross on recommendations
An interesting post from
leadensky about King Arthur, and the way that the first version of the story that a reader is exposed to affects her/his perceptions of the myth. (Particularly interesting to me, since the Matter of Britain was probably my original fandom).
I know lots of people have linked to this, but if there's one thing that I've learned on lj, it's that everybody sees a slightly different version of lj, and the thing that's all over one person's flist is often completely absent from someone else's. Fabulous post from
cereta on fandom and male privilege
A propos of
cereta's post (although not specifically fannish),
the_red_shoes linked to a couple of very thought-provoking essays on race and gender: the male privilege checklist and White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack
Some good thoughts on RPF from
thelastgoodname.
sistermagpie talks about the different way fans relate to the creator and the source text

pirate_hunters - If you're looking for a specific sort of PotC story and having a hard time finding what you want, make a post here asking for recs - anything from a specific pairing, a certain sort of plot or kink, or stories written in a particular style.
If you're looking for a story you've already read, make a post describing as much of the story as you can remember. Provide any sorts of details that might help folks identify it, including when and where you think you read it.
